MEGAN S.T. KIMURA
Born in raised in the small but significant town of Hilo, Hawai'i, I moved to Eugene, Oregon to define my abilities as a digital artist with the amazing art program provided at the University of Oregon. Later continuing my research and exploration at the Univeristy of Hawai'i at Hilo, I've evolved new practices to contribute to my community, grounding myself in my origins and culture; what makes me, me. My medium expands around the realms of both teaching and practicing: installation/wall murals, brand design, visual communication, product creation, printing, and oil painting. As a fourth(ish) generation Japanese-American, my work is heavily influenced by concepts and aesthetics of my Japanese studies/interests and the embedded culture of my family heritage. I love the idea of infusing traditional qualities with the constantly changing, immediate moment of now. My specialty is appreciating the physicality of paper, walls, fabric, and brushstrokes in this electronic world through print and paint as much as possible. My focus in life is to allow others to see the beauty in the mundane and imaginary, and appreciate detail in the ordinary and sometimes dark and twisted; to stop for a moment to think about the things one wouldn't, and the notification reminder that life is all connected, vast and ever more infinite than yesterday.
